stupor?

Dear House - for your consideration --

The citizens of the United States have spoken, and they have chosen their “king”. That in itself is a whole different issue that I will not address in this writing. Rather, I submit, there is yet a decision to be made by those in the nation who consider themselves “the Church”. There is yet a reaction, a response to be revealed from these in regard to this election selection.

As a generalization, the Church in America was hoping for a Presidential candidate whose values and stance on crucial issues were closer in line with their own. This has not occurred. In my estimation there was a substantial prayer effort as I observed from many churches, ministries, movements across the Church in the land and that is a good thing. So then, now it is done and how will we proceed?

I have been considering that there are two options. Many will become offended at the election results. Anger, sorrow and despair will become their diet. A continual feasting on such will not come to a good end for these individuals. I believe, at its core it expresses their offense with God Himself. “Lord how could you allow this to happen – we prayed and you did not listen; do you not hear our cry?” I can imagine this will become the faithless song of many.

A second, preferable response will be one of a different spirit. Even though this second group may have desired a different outcome in the election, they recognize that their trust is not in this earthly, political system or in any man or woman as our leader. Yes, we are to make our request made known to our Father; but at the same time recognizing that we see in part – never fully seeing or understanding the big picture. No one currently sees fully or perfectly (1Corinthians 13:9,10). This is precisely the point of this walk of faith with our Papa whom we have never seen. It is this faith that He is after. Will we choose to believe that He is for us and not against us? (Romans 8:31) Do we continue to believe that He does hear us when we call on Him? (Psalm 86:6-7). Philipians 4:6-7 describes the choice we have not to be anxious or worried about anything, but peace for our heart and mind may be secured through prayer. A point worth noting is that these verses mention nothing about the outcome of the requests made in prayer – I believe it has everything to do with our belief – we make our request but then we leave it there with Him in complete trust that He is acting and will act for our greatest good. (Romans 8:28) I choose to walk in the reality that I am a son of my heavenly Father – I am not an orphan and refuse to live like one (Romans 8:14). My father has only good intentions for me – every action of His towards me I can and will trust.

So what am I saying? As a believer and follower of Jesus Christ the King, I claim first and foremost that my citizenship is in a Kingdom that is not even of this world, it is spiritual and it can never be shaken, diminished or destroyed! (Philippians 3:20, Hebrews 12:28) As a matter of fact, the increase of this Kingdom will never end!! (Isaiah 9:7) Secondly, I am an earthly resident and citizen of the Untied States of America and I desire to live in peace and therefore I will pray for our leadership, including our incoming President. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
Our hope and trust was never to be in a nation called America, our system of government or our elected officials. Our hope should have always been in our great God who can lead us as a nation; and as we trust and honor Him He would cause blessings to be ours. Our nation, this experiment in self-governance and our leaders were always meant to be tools to promote and advance a greater Kingdom – the Kingdom of our great King Jesus. This nation has abandoned that path!

But now back to the first group mentioned – those who will choose to be offended in these days. This will be an extremely dangerous path to walk. The days are here when a great separation is becoming increasingly apparent among those who claim the name of the Lord. God is moving in new directions and many will choose to stay put and not advance with Him. A good historical scenario to reference is the Protestant Reformation. God initiated a new direction and a separation occurred at that time as well. Most stayed behind and did not progress. A transition and shift of great magnitude is again up on us today! In their offense these will be overtaken by a “spirit of stupor” and therefore sidelined in the current purposes of God (Romans 11). This election will be a hard blow to many and prove to be another step, and I believe a big step, in moving them farther away from the heart of what God desires to do.

My goal is to continue on in faith, believing that the Kingdom of Our God and of His Christ will become the ultimate victor over the kingdoms of this earth (Revelation 11:15). I believe a higher and greater Kingdom than we have ever seen displayed among the governmental systems of the earth is on the increase; this Kingdom will be one day manifested on the earth (the Lord Jesus Himself prayed for it – and we can safely trust that His prayer will be accomplished – Matthew 6:10). I am fighting with my own faith and contending to see in my days the glory of the Lord rising upon many others and me even as things on the planet grow darker (Isaiah 60:1-3). I do not want to be offended at earthly transitions and changes that appear to be wrong, and lose my ability to see and hear the purposes of a greater God. I want always to trust in my Father, as I am convinced that where and how He leads me is always in love and in that place I can find rest.

Courage & Strength,
Christopher Paul
